Fulton Hogan – West Burleigh

Heavy rainfall was  the main contributing factor on this site picking up a large amount of silt and small amount of hydrocarbons and discharging into the environment. Therefore, the project brief was to find a solution to retain the silt and remove any hydrocarbons from the water.

EWA completed a number of assessments first of all, creating a system that would reduce the migrating silt after mapping out the watercourse.  A fully customised filtration system was developed ensuring silt and hydrocarbons will be collected prior to discharge with very easy and  manageable maintenance  that would not require pump-outs.

The key elements of the project included:

  • Installing coir logs
  • A new 900 x 9000mm stormwater catchment drain
  • Custom made drain filter with replaceable hydrocarbon inserts
  • System outlets fitted with a custom geotextile fabric filter bag creating a sheet flow effect over a large surface area to prevent soil erosion and retain fine silt
